Translation Client Zone

- Sharing ideas with translation clients -

I’ve always wanted to write a blog and knew it had to be about translation. The number of blogs out there on this subject is overwhelming, though. How could I attempt to write something new and fresh with so many good professionals posting high quality texts every day?

At the ATA 51st Annual Conference (October 2010), I heard from more than one colleague that there were very few blogs targeting translation clients. “Hey, that’s something I can definitely do,” I thought. So here I am, writing about my passion from a whole new perspective—at least for me.

My idea is to address topics that are relevant to translation buyers, focusing on what I believe might help them understand how the industry works and how to get the best value for their money. At the same time, although I’m not writing specifically for translators, I believe service providers can learn a great deal as well.

I’m aware there’s a lot to be said about so many pertinent subjects. To avoid boring my readers, I’ve decided to keep my posts relatively short and accommodate more lengthy discussions into multiple posts. I hope it works!

If you’d like to suggest topics or ask questions, you can either leave a comment or send me an email. I’ll do my best to keep them in mind in upcoming posts.

Welcome aboard and thanks for reading!

I’d like to register my very special thanks to Adam, Carol, Gina, and Lynnea for reading my posts and collaborating with invaluable criticism before publication. I’ve been learning a great deal from your input and suggestions.

As I mentioned, the ATA conference was key for the creation of this blog, and I’d also like to acknowledge my main sources of inspiration and encouragement, all in some way related to ATA and/or to the event: Corinne Mckay for her insightful pre-conference seminar, Riccardo Schiaffino for his “Blogging 101” talk, presented by Corinne (later published as an article in the ATA Chronicle), and Chris Durban and Alan Melby for all the material they’ve carefully prepared on this topic (see the “Useful links” section on the left). Other events, people, and texts will certainly inspire me down the road, but you guys gave me the extra little push I needed to start blogging. Many thanks to all of you!
